A confident copywriter holding a samurai sword, standing in front while another person behind them prepares to draw their blade — symbolizing the playful tension between SEO and copywriting.
Please, read this first before attacking me from behind with your SEO sword.

Unlike most copywriters and SEO pros, I keep my ego in check.

Which is why I would never claim that SEO’s success is 100% thanks to your website copywriter.

I could take that route.

For example:

  • You need compelling headlines to make searchers click — that’s a pure copywriting skill.
  • You also need persuasive on-page copy to convert visitors — because stakeholders don’t care about vanity metrics, they just want ROI.

So, like I said, I’ve kept my ego in check for this one.

However, I will say this:

31% to 49% of SEO comes down to your website’s copywriting.

How did I come up with that number?

It’s a gut feeling, tbh.

Backed by 8+ years of copywriting for companies — big and small — plus direct work with SEO agencies who trust me to make their clients’ websites actually convert.

That’s why I can say with absolutely confidence that it’s more than 30%.

And just because I look stupid, doesn’t mean I am.

So I think we can all agree that less than 50% is equally right.
