Asking for Work vs Offering to Help
Stop Chasing Dead Ends. Start Attracting Better Opportunities.
Whether you’re trying to find new clients or a project to fill next month’s vacancies, there’s a significant difference between asking for work and offering to help.
The way you frame your pitch, proposal, or marketing message, is going to influence your prospect’s reaction and whether you’ll get a response or not.
Asking for work:
Take a moment to consider how you would react and respond if you received a message like this in a phone call or email:
“Hey John, do you have any work for me?”
Or…
“I know times are tough but I can provide you with [Service] at a fraction of the normal cost.”
When you’re asking for something, it can put a person on the spot and force them into a defensive position.
It’s also uncomfortable to be confronted with a request when it does not take into account the other person’s situation. The response to messages like these will often be to ignore it or find a way to avoid or reject the offer.
